Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 16 July 2026

1. About These Terms

These Terms and Conditions explain the rules that apply when you:

  • visit or use the Heywood MOT Station website;
  • contact us about our services;
  • submit an enquiry or booking request;
  • arrange an MOT, service, inspection, diagnostic check or repair;
  • authorise work on a vehicle; or
  • otherwise purchase garage services from us.

Please read the relevant parts of these terms before using the website or asking us to carry out work.

Some sections apply only to the website. Other sections apply when Heywood MOT Station agrees to provide a garage service.

Nothing in these terms removes or limits rights that you have under UK consumer law.

2. Business Information

The website and garage services are operated by:

Heywood Mot Station Ltd, trading as Heywood MOT Station.

Garage address:

Heywood MOT Station

1A Adelaide Street

Heywood

Greater Manchester

OL10 4HQ

United Kingdom

Telephone: 01706 618181

Mobile: 07925 952298

Email: repairs@heywoodmotstation.co.uk

In these terms, “Heywood MOT Station”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the business identified above.

“You” and “your” refer to the website visitor, customer, vehicle owner or person authorised to arrange work on a vehicle.

3. Website Terms and Garage Service Terms

These terms contain two related sets of conditions.

Website terms

The website terms apply when you browse the website, read its content, follow a link or use an available enquiry feature.

Garage service terms

The garage service terms apply when we accept a booking or otherwise agree to inspect, test, service or repair a vehicle.

Submitting an online form, leaving a message or requesting a callback does not necessarily create a contract for garage services. A service contract is formed only when the requested work has been accepted by Heywood MOT Station through an agreed communication method.

Any written estimate, quotation, job sheet, booking confirmation or other specific agreement may contain additional terms relevant to the particular work. Where there is a conflict, the more specific agreed information will normally apply, provided it is lawful and fair.

4. Using Our Website

You may use our website to:

  1. learn about Heywood MOT Station;
  2. view information about our garage services;
  3. find our contact details and location;
  4. contact us using an available method;
  5. request information;
  6. submit an enquiry or booking request, where this function is available; and access other legitimate website features.

The website is intended mainly for people seeking garage services in Heywood, Rochdale, Bury, Middleton, North Manchester and nearby areas.

Using the website does not guarantee that:

  1. a particular service is available;
  2. an appointment is available on your preferred date;
  3. a repair can be completed immediately;
  4. a particular part is in stock; or
  5. we have accepted a booking.

5. Website Information and Availability

We aim to keep website information clear and useful. However, service descriptions, availability, opening details, prices and other information may change.

Website content is general information and should not be treated as:

  1. a confirmed diagnosis;
  2. a vehicle safety assessment;
  3. a binding quotation;
  4. a guarantee that a vehicle will pass an MOT;
  5. a substitute for inspecting the vehicle; or
  6. professional advice tailored to a particular vehicle.

A reported symptom may have more than one possible cause. We normally need to inspect or test a vehicle before confirming the fault, recommended work, likely cost or completion time.

We do not guarantee that the website will always be available, uninterrupted or free from technical faults. We may suspend, restrict or change website access for maintenance, security, operational or technical reasons.

We are not responsible for problems caused by your internet connection, device, browser or third-party network.

6. Permitted and Prohibited Use

You may use the website only for lawful purposes.

You must not knowingly:

  1. misuse or damage the website;
  2. attempt to gain unauthorised access to the website, server or connected systems;
  3. introduce malware, viruses or harmful code;
  4. interfere with the operation or security of the website;
  5. submit false, fraudulent or misleading information;
  6. impersonate another person;
  7. use automated tools to extract website content without permission;
  8. use the website to send abusive, threatening or unlawful material; or
  9. infringe another person’s rights.

We may restrict access where reasonably necessary to protect the website, our customers, our staff or our systems.

7. Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, the website content, branding, written copy, layout and original visual materials belong to Heywood MOT Station or are used with permission.

You may view and print reasonable extracts for personal, non-commercial use.

You must not reproduce, republish, sell, modify or commercially exploit substantial parts of the website without prior written permission, except where the law allows it.

Third-party names, logos, vehicle brands and product marks remain the property of their respective owners. Their appearance on the website does not necessarily indicate sponsorship or endorsement.

8. Links and Third-Party Services

The website may contain links to:

  1. map services;
  2. social media platforms;
  3. review websites;
  4. vehicle information services;
  5. booking platforms; or
  6. other third-party websites.

These links may be provided for convenience. We do not control external websites and are not responsible for their content, availability, security or privacy practices.

Using a third-party website may be subject to that provider’s own terms and policies.

Where we help arrange a third-party product or service, we will explain the relationship where reasonably required. We do not claim responsibility for an independent third party’s performance unless the law or a specific agreement makes us responsible.

9. Enquiries and Booking Requests

You may contact us to ask about:

  1. Class 4 MOT testing;
  2. pre-MOT checks;
  3. MOT failure repairs and retests;
  4. interim, full or major servicing;
  5. oil and filter changes;
  6. brakes, suspension and exhausts;
  7. batteries, clutches, engines and turbos;
  8. DPF, EGR and AdBlue system work;
  9. diagnostic and electrical fault investigation;
  10. tyres, wheel balancing and puncture repairs;
  11. wheel tracking and Hunter four-wheel alignment;
  12. air conditioning regas, diagnostics and repairs; or
  13. another vehicle maintenance requirement.

An enquiry does not oblige you to purchase a service and does not oblige us to accept the work.

We may need further information before deciding whether we can assist, including the vehicle registration, make, model, mileage, reported symptoms and previous repair history.

10. Booking Confirmation

A booking request is not confirmed until Heywood MOT Station has accepted it by telephone, email or another agreed method.

Where we accept a booking, we may confirm:

  1. the vehicle;
  2. the requested service;
  3. the date or approximate arrival time;
  4. whether the vehicle will be left with us;
  5. any initial charge or agreed price;
  6. information we need from you; and
  7. any relevant booking conditions.

An appointment time may refer to when the vehicle is due to arrive rather than the exact time at which all work will begin or finish.

Where a vehicle is delivered without a confirmed booking, we may inspect it only when workshop capacity allows.

11. Customer and Vehicle Information

You must provide information that is accurate and reasonably complete.

This may include:

  1. your name and contact details;
  2. the vehicle registration number;
  3. make and model;
  4. current mileage;
  5. warning lights or symptoms;
  6. known faults;
  7. previous diagnostic or repair work;
  8. modifications;
  9. locking wheel nut key location;
  10. alarm, immobiliser or access instructions;
  11. relevant service history; and
  12. information about unusual, intermittent or safety-related problems.

You should tell us if you are not the vehicle owner or registered keeper. By authorising work, you confirm that you have permission to arrange the service and approve charges for the vehicle.

We are not responsible for additional time, cost or incomplete diagnosis caused by materially inaccurate or withheld information, except where we should reasonably have identified the issue ourselves.

12. Estimates and Quotations

An estimate is an approximate indication of the expected cost based on the information available at the time. The final cost may change if:

  1. the vehicle’s condition differs from what was described;
  2. further faults are discovered;
  3. extra work is authorised;
  4. parts prices or availability change;
  5. seized, corroded or damaged components require additional labour; or
  6. further investigation is reasonably necessary.

A
quotation is a price offered for specified work based on an agreed scope. A quotation may need to be revised where you request different work or where the agreed assumptions prove materially incorrect.

We will explain whether a price is an estimate or quotation where this is not already clear.

Website prices, where displayed, are general information unless expressly confirmed for your vehicle and the requested work.

All estimates and quotations are provided on a non-VAT basis, as Heywood MOT Station is not VAT registered. No VAT is charged or included in our prices. The total amount quoted is the amount payable unless otherwise stated in writing.

We will seek your approval before carrying out material additional chargeable work where reasonably possible.

13. Diagnostic Work

Vehicle diagnostics may involve:

  1. discussing reported symptoms;
  2. visual inspection;
  3. electronic fault-code scanning;
  4. live-data analysis;
  5. electrical testing;
  6. road testing, where appropriate;
  7. component testing;
  8. dismantling or access work; and
  9. further investigation.

A fault code does not always identify the underlying cause of a problem. It may indicate the system in which a fault has been detected rather than the exact failed part.

Some problems are intermittent, dependent on driving conditions or influenced by previous repairs, modifications, wiring damage or several connected faults. A diagnostic scan may therefore lead to a recommendation for further investigation rather than an immediate final diagnosis.

Diagnostic work does not guarantee that every fault will be reproduced or identified during the booked inspection.

Diagnostic time or further investigation may be chargeable where this has been explained and agreed.

£80.00 per hour

We will not use these terms to avoid responsibility for diagnostic work that has not been performed with reasonable care and skill.

14. Authorising Additional Work

We will not normally carry out material additional chargeable work without your approval.

Approval may be given:

  1. verbally;
  2. by telephone;
  3. in writing;
  4. by email;
  5. through an agreed messaging method; or
  6. by another clear method accepted by both parties.

We may pause work while waiting for your response.

Where urgent action is reasonably necessary to prevent immediate danger, serious further damage or loss, we will try to contact you before taking action. We will not assume unlimited authority to carry out extra work.

If you decline recommended work, we may record that decision. We may also explain any known safety, reliability, legal or roadworthiness implications.

15. Parts and Materials

Parts may be:

  1. new;
  2. manufacturer-branded;
  3. original-equipment quality;
  4. aftermarket;
  5. reconditioned;
  6. remanufactured; or
  7. used.

The type of part supplied should be agreed or explained where it materially affects price, suitability or warranty.

Availability can vary according to the vehicle, supplier and urgency of the work.

Where you ask us to fit a part supplied by you, we may decide whether it is suitable and safe to install. Any limitation applying to customer-supplied parts must be explained before work begins.

We do not accept or fit customer-supplied parts. All parts used in repairs and servicing must be sourced and supplied by Heywood MOT Station or our approved suppliers. This ensures that the parts are suitable for the vehicle, meet the required quality standards, and are covered by any applicable warranty. We cannot accept responsibility for the quality, compatibility, safety or performance of parts supplied by customers.

Removed parts may be disposed of unless:

  1. you ask to retain them before the work is completed;
  2. they must be returned to a supplier;
  3. they are subject to an exchange or surcharge arrangement; or
  4. disposal is regulated for environmental or safety reasons.

16. MOT Testing

An MOT is a statutory inspection of specified safety and environmental items at the time of the test.

An MOT:

  1. does not guarantee that a vehicle is free from every fault;
  2. is not the same as a service;
  3. does not assess every mechanical component;
  4. does not guarantee continued roadworthiness after the test; and
  5. does not guarantee that the vehicle will remain reliable until its next MOT.

The vehicle must be presented in a condition that allows the test to be performed safely and properly. This may include having sufficient fuel or charge, accessible seat belts, a readable vehicle identification number and any necessary keys or controls.

We cannot guarantee that a vehicle will pass.

The test result will be recorded according to applicable DVSA requirements.

17. MOT Failures, Repairs and Retests

If a vehicle fails its MOT, we may explain:

  1. the recorded defects;
  2. which items are classed as dangerous, major or advisory;
  3. repair options we can offer;
  4. whether parts need to be ordered;
  5. likely costs; and
  6. whether a partial retest may be available.

You are not obliged to have failure repairs completed by us unless you have separately agreed to the work.

Retest eligibility and fees depend on the official MOT rules, the failed items, where repairs are completed and when the vehicle is returned. We do not promise that every retest will be free.

Where a vehicle is left at the test centre for repair and retested within the applicable official period, a partial retest may qualify for different treatment under DVSA rules. The correct fee and process will be confirmed for the circumstances of the vehicle.

A vehicle that has failed may not be safe or lawful to drive. It remains your responsibility to follow the MOT result and current roadworthiness rules.

If you disagree with an MOT result, raise the issue with us before repairs, alterations or adjustments are made where possible. You may have a right to use the formal DVSA appeal procedure.

18. Servicing and Repair Work

We will carry out agreed servicing and repairs with reasonable care and skill.

The precise work included depends on the service level or repair scope agreed with you.

A service may identify problems that were not part of the original booking. We will explain significant findings and seek approval before carrying out additional chargeable work.

Completing one repair does not guarantee that unrelated or previously hidden faults will not exist.

Where a vehicle has several faults, repairing one item may reveal another issue or make an existing symptom easier to identify.

We may decline or stop work where:

  1. the requested repair would be unsafe or unlawful;
  2. the vehicle presents an unacceptable risk;
  3. suitable parts or technical information are unavailable;
  4. the work requires equipment or expertise we do not provide;
  5. previous modifications prevent proper repair;
  6. you do not approve necessary work; or
  7. continuing would be unreasonable in the circumstances.

You will remain responsible for agreed work already completed and authorised costs already incurred.

19. Tyres, Balancing and Wheel Alignment

Before fitting or repairing a tyre, we may consider:

  1. tyre size;
  2. speed and load rating;
  3. tread condition;
  4. age and damage;
  5. wheel condition;
  6. puncture location;
  7. previous repairs;
  8. vehicle manufacturer requirements; and
  9. whether the tyre can be repaired safely.

Not every puncture can be repaired.

Wheel balancing is intended to reduce vibration caused by wheel and tyre imbalance. It may not resolve vibration caused by suspension, steering, drivetrain, wheel or tyre damage.

Wheel alignment adjusts measurable wheel angles within the limits allowed by the vehicle and its components. Alignment may not remain correct where:

  1. suspension or steering parts are worn;
  2. components are bent or damaged;
  3. tyres are defective or unevenly worn;
  4. adjustment points are seized;
  5. the vehicle has been modified; or
  6. further mechanical work is required.

We may recommend repairs before alignment can be completed properly.

20. Air Conditioning Services

Air conditioning work may include:

  1. system checks;
  2. leak investigation;
  3. refrigerant recovery;
  4. vacuum testing;
  5. regassing;
  6. temperature testing;
  7. component diagnosis; and
  8. repair recommendations.

Heywood MOT Station may provide services for R134a and R1234yf systems where suitable.

A regas does not repair a leak, electrical failure or defective component.

Where a system has lost refrigerant, further investigation may be recommended. Some leaks are small or intermittent and may not be immediately visible during an initial check.

We will not knowingly release refrigerant contrary to applicable requirements.

The final price may depend on refrigerant type, quantity, system condition and any repair work separately authorised.

21. Vehicle Condition and Pre-Existing Faults

A vehicle may arrive with:

  1. body damage;
  2. warning lights;
  3. worn or damaged components;
  4. fluid leaks;
  5. corrosion;
  6. electrical faults;
  7. modified systems;
  8. missing parts;
  9. pre-existing interior damage; or
  10. personal belongings inside.

Where reasonably appropriate, we may record mileage, fuel level, visible condition or existing damage when the vehicle arrives.

We are not responsible for pre-existing damage or faults that we did not cause.

Testing, dismantling or repairing one part of an older, worn or corroded system can sometimes reveal weakness in another component. We will assess responsibility fairly and will not treat every failure during work as automatically pre-existing.

22. Completion Times and Delays

Any completion date or time is an estimate unless we clearly agree otherwise.

Completion may be affected by:

  1. parts availability;
  2. supplier delays;
  3. additional faults;
  4. seized or corroded parts;
  5. diagnostic complexity;
  6. specialist subcontracted work;
  7. staff absence;
  8. equipment failure;
  9. unsafe working conditions; or
  10. events outside our reasonable control.

We will try to keep you informed about material delays.

Where no completion time has been agreed, work will be completed within a reasonable time as required by applicable consumer law.

23. Payment

You must pay the agreed or properly chargeable amount for authorised work.

Payment for authorised work is due in full upon completion of the work and before the vehicle is collected or released, unless otherwise agreed in writing. We reserve the right to retain the vehicle until all outstanding charges have been paid in full, where permitted by law.

We accept payment by cash, debit card, credit card and bank transfer.

In certain circumstances, we may require a deposit or advance payment before commencing work. This may apply where special-order or non-returnable parts are required, or where significant parts or labour costs are incurred in advance. Any deposit requirement will be confirmed before work begins.

We also offer Klarna Pay in 3, subject to eligibility and approval by Klarna. Approval is at Klarna’s sole discretion, and the finance agreement is between you and Klarna. Separate terms and conditions apply.

We do not offer our own credit facilities. Any finance arrangements are provided by third-party finance providers and are subject to their lending criteria and terms.

We will provide appropriate information about charges.

Where a price was not fixed in advance, the amount charged must be reasonable in the circumstances.

Nothing in this section allows us to charge for material additional work that was not authorised, except where a legal right to payment otherwise applies.

24. Vehicle Collection

We will contact you using the available details when the vehicle is ready or when collection needs to be arranged.

Before leaving, you should:

  1. pay any amount due under the agreed payment terms;
  2. collect keys and documents;
  3. review any important safety advice;
  4. ask questions about the work; and
  5. tell us promptly if you notice an immediate concern.

A person collecting on your behalf may be asked to confirm their identity or authority.

[CONFIRM VEHICLE RELEASE AND COLLECTION PROCEDURE]

You remain responsible for ensuring the vehicle is insured, taxed where required and lawfully driven after collection.

25. Customer Belongings

Please remove money, valuables and unnecessary personal belongings before leaving the vehicle.

Tell us about any item that must remain in the vehicle or is particularly valuable, fragile or relevant to the work.

We will take reasonable care of a vehicle and belongings while they are in our possession. We are not responsible for loss or damage that we could not reasonably prevent.

Nothing in these terms excludes responsibility where loss or damage was caused by our negligence or another matter for which liability cannot lawfully be excluded.

26. Cancellations and Changes

Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to cancel or change a booking.

If you need to cancel or reschedule your booking, please contact us as soon as possible. We will make every reasonable effort to accommodate changes, subject to workshop availability.

We reserve the right to charge a reasonable fee where an appointment is cancelled at short notice or where a customer fails to attend a booked appointment without prior notice, particularly where labour time has been allocated, or special-order parts have been obtained specifically for the booking.

Where a deposit has been paid for special-order or non-returnable parts, the deposit is generally non-refundable once the parts have been ordered, unless otherwise agreed in writing or required by law. Deposits paid for other bookings may be refunded at our discretion, depending on the circumstances and any costs already incurred.

Any cancellation charge must be fair, transparent and proportionate to the business’s actual loss or reasonable costs. A deposit will not be described as automatically non-refundable.

We may cancel or rearrange a booking where reasonably necessary, including because of staff absence, equipment failure, parts availability, unsafe conditions or another operational problem.

Where we cancel, we will seek to notify you and arrange a reasonable alternative where possible. Any payment for work not supplied will be handled according to the circumstances and your legal rights.

27. Uncollected Vehicles and Storage

You should collect the vehicle within the agreed or reasonably notified period after being told it is ready.

Once we have notified you that your vehicle is ready for collection, it must be collected within the agreed collection period or, where no period has been agreed, within 48 hours of notification.

If the vehicle is not collected within 48 hours after notification, storage charges of £40.00 per day (or part thereof) may apply until the vehicle is collected.

We will make reasonable efforts to contact you before storage charges commence. We reserve the right to exercise our legal rights, including a lien over the vehicle where permitted by law, until all outstanding charges, including authorised repair costs and applicable storage charges, have been paid in full.

If a vehicle remains uncollected for an extended period, we reserve the right to take further action in accordance with applicable law, including recovering our reasonable costs and, where legally permitted, disposing of the vehicle after providing appropriate notice to the owner.

No storage charge should be imposed unless it has been clearly communicated and is fair.

If a vehicle remains uncollected, we may contact you using the details provided and take reasonable steps to resolve the matter.

We will not claim an unrestricted right to sell, dispose of or take ownership of an uncollected vehicle. Any further action involving an uncollected vehicle must follow applicable law and should be subject to specific legal advice.

28. Warranties and Guarantees

Any warranty or guarantee applying to parts or labour must be confirmed in writing or on the relevant invoice, job sheet or other service document.

A warranty may be subject to fair conditions, such as:

  1. normal use;
  2. following relevant maintenance advice;
  3. allowing us a reasonable opportunity to inspect a reported problem;
  4. the vehicle not being misused or improperly modified; and
  5. the issue being connected to the original supplied part or work.

A warranty does not replace or reduce your statutory rights.

Manufacturer or supplier warranties may be subject to their own terms.

29. Customer Responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  1. providing accurate information;
  2. having authority to approve the work;
  3. telling us about known faults and modifications;
  4. responding to requests for approval;
  5. making the vehicle reasonably accessible;
  6. providing keys, security information and locking wheel nut tools where needed;
  7. paying authorised charges;
  8. collecting the vehicle as agreed; and
  9. following safety and roadworthiness advice.

You should stop using a vehicle and seek advice where a warning, defect or symptom suggests it may be unsafe.

30. Our Responsibility to You

We are responsible for reasonably foreseeable loss or damage caused by:

  1. our breach of these terms;
  2. our failure to use reasonable care and skill; or
  3. our negligence.

We are not responsible for loss that:

  1. was not reasonably foreseeable;
  2. was not caused by our breach;
  3. results from inaccurate or withheld information;
  4. arises because recommended work was declined;
  5. results from continued use of an unsafe vehicle against advice; or
  6. relates to a fault or damage that existed before our work and was not caused by us.

We do not exclude or limit liability for:

  1. death or personal injury caused by negligence;
  2. fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
  3. breach of rights that cannot legally be excluded;
  4. defective products where liability cannot lawfully be excluded; or
  5. any other matter for which exclusion would be unlawful.

Where you use our services wholly or mainly for business purposes, different rules may apply, and separate written terms may be appropriate.

31. Events Outside Our Reasonable Control

We are not responsible for delay or failure caused by an event outside our reasonable control where we have taken reasonable steps to manage its effect.

Examples may include:

  1. severe weather;
  2. fire or flood;
  3. major power or communications failure;
  4. transport disruption;
  5. supplier failure;
  6. national emergencies;
  7. industrial action;
  8. government restrictions; or
  9. unexpected closure for safety reasons.

We will try to contact affected customers and resume the service when reasonably possible.

This section does not remove rights you may have where services cannot be supplied.

32. Consumer Rights

If you are a consumer, services must be supplied with reasonable care and skill.

Information about the service that you rely upon when entering the contract may become binding. Where a price has not been agreed, you are required to pay a reasonable price. Where no completion time has been fixed, the service must be completed within a reasonable time.

Depending on the circumstances, legal remedies may include repeat performance or a price reduction.

Goods supplied as part of a service, such as replacement parts, must also meet applicable legal standards.

Nothing in these terms affects your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or other applicable consumer protection legislation.

You may obtain independent consumer guidance from the Citizens Advice consumer service or your local Trading Standards service.

33. Complaints

Contact us promptly if you are unhappy with:

  1. customer service;
  2. an estimate or invoice;
  3. diagnostic work;
  4. servicing or repairs;
  5. a fitted part;
  6. an MOT-related matter; or
  7. another aspect of our service.

Providing the vehicle registration, date of visit, invoice or job number and a clear explanation will help us investigate.

We may ask to inspect the vehicle before deciding what action is appropriate. You should give us a reasonable opportunity to investigate and, where the law provides, repeat or correct work.

A complaint about the quality of service or repair is different from a formal appeal against an MOT result.

Further information is available in our Complaints Policy.

34. Privacy and Cookies

We process personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Our Cookie Policy explains how the website uses cookies and similar technologies.

You should read both policies alongside these Terms and Conditions.

35. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms when:

  1. our services or processes change;
  2. website functionality changes;
  3. payment or booking methods change;
  4. new legal requirements apply; or
  5. clarification is required.

The updated version will be published with a revised “Last updated” date.

Changes will not unfairly alter a contract for work already agreed.

36. General Legal Terms

If part of these terms is invalid

If a court or competent authority finds that part of these terms is unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining sections will continue to apply where legally possible.

Delay in enforcing a term

If we do not immediately enforce a right, this does not necessarily mean that the right has been waived.

Rights of other people

Unless the law provides otherwise, these terms are between you and Heywood MOT Station. They do not normally give another person a right to enforce them.

Entire agreement

These terms, together with the specific booking, quotation, job sheet or other written agreement, describe the terms applying to the service.

This does not exclude responsibility for statements that are binding under consumer law or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

37. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.

If you are a consumer, you may bring legal proceedings in the courts available to you under applicable law. Nothing in this section removes a consumer’s right to use another legally available jurisdiction.
